Travel to Japan Day (and a half)

It is 9 am here in Portland on Wednesday.  But it is 1 am Thursday in Japan.  We should be sleeping, but not yet.

We arrived at the airport, checked-in, cleared security (ah TSA Pre-check) and had breakfast at The Country Cat, a new restaurant whose original place is on SE Stark in Montivilla neighborhood.  Wewalked  around the terminal for exercise, admmiring the newish carpet, and various artist displays.  The Port of Portland has even added voluneer musicians who play in the concourses.  They appear to be attempting to reduce the stress of flying.

We arrived in Vancouver on time, passed Canadian Customs after a long walk through the terminal "tunnels" and up and down stairs.  We found our outgoing gate and then the Air Canada Lounge.  I tried to access WiFi but got nothing, even though the iPad showed a strong signal.

We departed on time on Air Canada flight AC0003 for the 9 and 1/2 hour ride to Tokyo, Narita Airport.  We sat in row 5 in business class and enjoyed two fine meals, fully reclining seats and a full array of entertainment.  I watch 3 movies, catching up on Bradley Cooper - Aloha, American Sniper and Kingsman.  The last one was a rather farcical British agents movie starring Colin Firth, who was a master at mayhem, as was everyone else.  There were a lot of dead bodies even including President Obama.  The story centered on Samuel L. Jackson's character's cure for global climate change, which was to drastical reduce world population, except for the chosen few.

We arrive at Narita at 3:30 pm on Thursday.  We walked for a mile then cleared immigration, retrieved bags and passes through customs, very efficiently.  we easily found the Friendly Limousine Bus Service which carried us to our hotel.  it is a warm day in Tokyo, everything is green.  It is certainly quieter here with no loud conversations or cell phones.  Everyone queued up politelyand stayed behind the lines.  There were three baggage handlers at our bus stop who arranged the luggage for loading.  we are driving on a modern 6 lane highway, traveling on the left side.

After nearly 2 hours, we arrived at our hotel - Royal Park at Shiodome.  Reception is on the 24th floor.  We have four nights here; our room is on the thirtieth floor with a great view to a river flowing intoTokyo Bay.  It is crashing time.
