Thursday, May 14th: We are off to the Oregon Coast tomorrow to do the Reach the Beach bike ride from Amity to Pacific City. We are staying in a yurt at Devils Lake State Park.
We arrived to misting in some areas. We drove to Pacific City in hopes of leaving one car there overnight. We were able to park on a back street a few blocks from the Pelican Brewpub. We drove back to Lincoln City (where Devils Lake is) through very heavy mists. We cooked dinner outside of the yurt but ate inside. It was gracious in that we had lights and heat. We retired early.
Saturday, we got up early, showered in the campground and buggied off for Amity, to meet up Varis, Kathy, Mark, and Leslie, all who were also biking and Dennis who was driving the support car. Varis, Betsy and I took off at about 8:40 am and rode west on the first of four legs. First rest stop was in Sheridan, second rest stop was in Grande Ronde and final rest stop at the Little Nesucci River in the Coast Range. We arrived into Pacific City at 2:30 pm. Total distance was 54 miles. By the end Betsy's thigh muscles were quivering. We partied at the finish line (beer and dinner) and began the recovery process. We retrieved the car and drove back to our yurt.
We showered and collapsed for a few hours. We are drinking plenty of water and took a dose of Ibuprofen. We went for a brief walk to the seashore and returned for fruit and yogurt. It will be an early night again.
